General Henry Dearborn letter signed as U.S. Secretary of War, dated 12 March 1806. Addressed to Meriwether Jones, Esq., the Commissioner of Loans in Virginia. It reads: ''War Department / Sir - William Overstreet a pensioner of the United States standing on the books of the state of Pennsylvania at the rate of three dollars per month, has this day been transferred to those for the state of Virginia, where he will receive his pension from and after that which fell due on the 4th of the present month. You will please to enter his name of your books and govern yourself accordingly. I am sir, very respectfully...H. Dearborn.'' 1pp. retained duplicate letter includes a second page with addressee information. Both sheets come mounted to light paper board due to separation at folds. Measures 7.75'' x 10''. Toning with light foxing and creasing. Very good.
