Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter signed from Europe during WWII. He writes to his wife, Mamie, in part: ''My Darling: I am particularly lonesome for you today. How I wish this war would end! The misery and suffering that the world seems destined to endure each generation, merely because humanity itself is not sufficiently intelligent to avoid war, is worse than appalling. One trip through a...hospital, or across a recent battlefield, is enough to make one hate Hitler, and all like him, forever. Tomorrow I start on another trip. A friend of mine found this funny looking bill fold in duty. You will see it has lots of pockets in it - for use apparently in these countries where there are all sizes of bills. Anyway I'm putting a few franks in it as a Christmas present for John. Then he'll have some...whenever he may hit France. No matter what he thinks I pray every night that he'll never get into the mess, but I keep my mouth shut. My dog is fine. I hope we have some pups in a couple months...Loads of love / Always your Ike''. 2pp. letter on ruled stationery measures 8'' x 10.5''. Near fine.
