Orson Welles typed letter signed ''Orson Welles''. The ''Citizen Kane'' mastermind writes to author and social activist Pearl Buck, who worked for the welfare of the poor in China. It reads in part: ''...I would be very happy to be a...[sponsor] for a season of modern Chinese plays. I hope very much there is something more valuable I can contribute to your organization than the use of my name, since my allotment of contributions for this year is all used up and I won't be able to assist financially...'' Also included is an original 1938 TIME magazine cover featuring Welles. 1pp. letter on Welles' Mercury Productions letterhead measures 8.5'' x 11''. Toning and creasing with two shallow horizontal tears to top edge. Very good.
