Handwritten letter to a Peter van Schaack, dated 15 May 1792 from H.L. Hasmet, a lawyer for ''Mr. Roosevelt'', probably James Roosevelt who lived in New York at this time. Letter concerns a tenant of Roosevelt's and a suit involving van Schaack, a prominent lawyer in Kinderhook, New York: ''...Mr. Roosevelt has employed me to find a suit summoned by you in favor of M. Campbell against Ralph Patrick...'' Incidentally, James Roosevelt's son, Cornelius, married a Maria van Schaack. 6.5'' x 8.25'' card style letter is age-worn, overall very good.
