Leo Tolstoy signed first pocket edition of his novella ''The Captive in the Caucasus.'' The literary great signs the top of the front cover ''L.N. Tolstoy'' in Cryillic, and dedicates it as well. The text is in Cryillic and contains the pacifist ideology Tolstoy embraced. Print on the front cover labels this ''No. 3 of the Immediate Edition''. 48pp. novella measures 3.75'' x 5''. Light staining to fragile leaves and to outer edges of front cover. In very good condition. A rare edition signed by one of the most influential 19th century authors.
