Mary, Queen of Scots letter signed from 1565, shortly after the Scottish Reformation when she, as Mary I of Scotland, returned from France to reign over her birth country as the Catholic queen in a now Protestant land. Signed ''Marie R.'' alongside the signature of her husband, Henry Stewart, Earl of Darnley, Mary here writes to the Laird of Kilravock, removing his charge of Inverness Castle in favor of the Earl of Huntly. Dated 9 October 1565. Letter measures approximately 8'' x 9.5'' on watermarked paper. Folds and light smudging to writing in another hand, overall very good condition.
