Egyptologist Victor Loret letter signed as Director of the Egyptian Antiquities Service. Dated 20 December 1898, French letter on Ministry of Public Works stationery is signed ''V. Loret'' and dated in Loret's hand at the conclusion. Letter concerns retaining officers from the War Department for an unnamed project. Just nine months earlier in 1898, Loret made the important discovery of Pharaoh Amenhotep II's tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Letter measures 8.5'' x 10.75''. Folds, light toning and staple punctures, overall very good condition.
