''Sadie Hawkins Day Blues'' script personally owned by its writer Al Capp. Capp introduced the concept of Sadie Hawkins Day in the ''Li'l Abner'' strip in 1937. The day was designated as an annual event in which the single women of Dogpatch physically chased down and captured the town's bachelors, who were then forced to marry them. Sadie Hawkins Day achieved mainstream notoriety, inspiring turnabout dances nationwide. Here, Capp presents a Sadie Hawkins Day tale in screenplay format, featuring the comic strip's favorite characters: Li'l Abner, Daisy Mae, Mammy, Pappy, Moonbeam McSwine, Tobacco Rhoda, Marryin' Sam, Old Man Mose, Stupefyin Jones and Available Jones, who Capp describes as, ''looks like a sneaky, depraved Wally Cox''. Dated 28 April 1964, script runs 42pp. Bound in teal paper covers with silver lettering. Measures 9'' x 11.5''. Toning to leaves, chipping to cover at spine and ink notations by an unknown hand on verso of the last page, else near fine. From the Al Capp estate.
