Lot of two Civil War documents signed by Abraham Lincoln from 1864, a time of political turmoil for the President as he ran for reelection. With General Ulysses S. Grant's bloody Overland Campaign playing out on the battlefield, Lincoln felt he was likely to lose the Presidential election (and possibly the Union) during this time, although, of course, he would ultimately triumph in his bid for the White House. Lot includes:

1) Abraham Lincoln autograph endorsement signed as President, dated 22 April 1864, issuing amnesty to a Confederate soldier according to the Proclamation of Amnesty on 8 December 1863, where Confederates would be given amnesty if they took the oath of allegiance to the United States. Lincoln hand writes, ''Let the within named William H. Murray, take the oath of Dec. 8th and be discharged. / A. Lincoln / April 22, 1864''. Above Lincoln's endorsement is a handwritten statement by Republican Tennessee Congressman Horace Maynard, recommending the discharge of Mr. Murray. Endorsement measures 4.875'' x 4.75''. Fold and very minor smudging, overall in very good plus condition with bold handwriting.

2) Abraham Lincoln signed executive order, dated 1 September 1864. Lincoln hand writes, ''Approved and ordered. / A. Lincoln / Sep. 1, 1864.'' Slip measures 3'' x 2.625''. Mounting remnants to verso, overall in very good plus condition, also with bold handwriting.
