Lot of 60 original publicity stills from the classic 1927 film, ''Metropolis'', directed by Fritz Lang. Noted for its visually stunning art direction and cinematography, and also as one of the first science fiction films, ''Metropolis'' is considered one of its most important and influential films in the pantheon of cinema. Glossy silver gelatin photos are contained in a hardback binder, each numbered sequentially from ''933-1A'' to ''933-65A'', missing photos numbered 8, 27, 33, 55 and 60. The story of the film is told visually in the stills, including the great skyscrapers hovering over Metropolis, the underground dwellings where the workers toil, the machinery of the city, the flood, and Maria in both human and robotic form. Each photo measures 10'' x 8'', with producer's UFA mark on each. All photos are linen backed, a few loose from the book. Almost all are in very good plus condition with light edgewear and some smudging to emulsion.
