Four volume first edition box set of ''Abraham Lincoln: The War Years'' signed by its author, poet Carl Sandburg. Harcourt, Brace and Co.: New York: 1939. Sandburg signs on the front free endpaper of volume 1, ''John J. Witten / with respect and good wishes / Carl Sandburg / Manhattan / 1943''. Volumes 1-4 run 660pp., 655pp., 673pp. and 515pp. respectively. Books measure 7'' x 10'' and have some toning and separation at the boards. Box housing the volumes has some chipping and separation at the corners. Overall in very good condition.
