Stephen Sondheim letter signed, composed on his personal stationery. Dated 9 April 2003, Sondheim writes to an author friend, with amusing content on ''pure rhymes'' vs. ''approximate ones''. Letter reads in full, ''I did indeed read 'Live from Down Stares' over the weekend and enjoyed it a lot. I have nothing to say, except that I'm a fancier of pure rhymes and you often use approximate ones. This is okay in the field of pop music, of course, less so in commercial musical theater. But then, I'm a traditionalist…[signed] Stephen Sondheim''. Boldly signed by Sondheim in black felt-tip. Single page measures 5.875'' x 7.75''. Single fold, overall near fine. Accompanied by original mailing envelope.
