Suffragette and abolitionist Mary A. Livermore autograph quotation signed, paraphrasing theologian Frederick W. Faber's hymn: '''Right is right, as God is God.' / Mary A. Livermore / Melrose, Mass. Apr 8, 1872.'' A very intelligent woman who graduated from high school at 14, Livermore attended seminary school before working for the abolition of slavery. After the Civil War she served as president for both the American Woman Suffrage Association and the Association for the Advancement of Women. She passed away in 1905, 15 years before women secured the right to vote. Slip measures approximately 6.75'' x 3.75'' with irregular left edge. Near fine condition.
