Booker T. Washington letter signed as Principal of The Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, dated 25 January 1910. Washington writes to a Mrs. C.E. Ogilvie of Brooklyn, asking for a donation to pay current expenses and increase the Endowment Fund ''to a more satisfactory figure''. Signed ''Booker T. Washington'' in black fountain pen. As Principal of Tuskegee, Washington was the most prominent African American leader at this time, focusing his efforts on vocational opportunities for black men and women. Single page letter on Tuskegee stationery measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds, light toning and smudge to signature, overall very good condition.
