Logbook chronicling a whaling expedition from May 1867 through September 1868, with daily entries. Large book begins on 27 May 1867 for the Bark President out of New Bedford, under the command of Captain James Soule and ends on 4 September the following year. Fifteen whale stamps are present, including two on 17 July 1867 next to the entry reading in small part, ''This day commenced with a strong breeze from the SE...at 7 AM took two Whales alongside, at 7 PM commenced cutting. At 2 PM finished.'' Hardcover logbook runs approximately 162pp., filling most of the journal, and measures 8.5'' x 13.55'', bound in original marbled boards and leather spine. Period advertisement for a New Bedford nautical store affixed to front pastedown. Some fading to text, less so as journal progresses, incisions to a few pages and normal wear to binding, overall in very good condition. Additional photos can be seen here.
