Rare autograph letter signed by Julie Andrews regarding winning the Best Actress Academy Award for ''Mary Poppins'', penned in April 1965 shortly after the ceremony. Composed to ''Mary Poppins'' producer and screenwriter Bill Walsh, letter reads in full:
''Tuesday. / My Dear Bill - / I've been meaning for ages to write & tell you how very much I enjoyed 'That Darn Cat.' It's so funny & endearing - & is beautifully cast. The night I saw it I felt I didn't really convey to you just how super I think it is - So I thought I'd send you this brief note. Also - & of equal importance - I want to thank you so much for all your help & tact & love in connection with 'Poppins' & that lovely Oscar. It's a [?] belated I know - but I was waiting until I recovered my sanity from that crazy award evening. Now I don't think I'll ever be sane again. I'm still in a daze from it all - & always will be!! But bless you & thank you for making it possible.
Will you & Noli come to dinner one evening with Roddy & [?] Lydon & his wife? I'll phone & make a date. Much love - as always - Julie X''.
Two page letter on a single sheet measures 7.75'' x 6.875'', penned by Andrews in black felt-tip. Single fold, overall near fine. Accompanied by original envelope addressed in Andrews' hand to Bill Walsh, postmarked 28 April 1965 and marked Personal. From the estate of Bill Walsh.
