Hunter S. Thompson autograph letter signed on New Year's Eve, 1961. Composed on an aerogram postmarked 1 January 1962, Thompson writes to his friend Paul Semonin from their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky where Thompson was working on ''Rum Diary''. Letter reads in part, ''...Saw the pro champ. game today - Packers 37, Giants 0 - shitty game. Sale of Agar [Thompson's German Shepherd] fell through - had a $300 offer - may have to stay another week for a dog show in New Albany...That is all that stands between me & NY. Money & Agar. Novel is bogged down horribly. Starting over again. Tough. Been a frustrating stay, all in all, too many details & errands & wasted time saying old things to old people. Only the shooting has kept me clean...Nothing is happening here - & nothing will. Yeah - H''. In the letter, Thompson mentions mutual friends George Logan, Donald Cooke and David Porter Bibb. Single page letter, with handwritten address panel on verso, measures 7.25'' x 12''. Chipping on edges from opening, and light toning. Overall very good condition.
