Display regarding the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson, the first President to be impeached for "high crimes and misdemeanors". Display includes a U.S. Senate trial ticket - a rare full ticket, as well as the signatures of Johnson and all seven of the House managers who served as Johnson's prosecutors: James Wilson, George Boutwell, John Logan, Benjamin Butler, Thaddeus Stevens, Thomas Williams and John Bingham.
Although Johnson was impeached by the House for violating the Tenure of Office Act, he was ultimately exonerated in the U.S. Senate by only one vote. After the Civil War, Johnson tried to block Reconstruction legislation being passed by Congress, which subsequently passed the Tenure of Office Act (against Johnson's veto) in order to protect Edwin Stanton, an Abraham Lincoln appointee who often sided with the "Radical Republicans" in Congress. The signatures of these same Republicans are featured here, along with their nemesis, President Andrew Johnson.
Entire display measures 26.75" x 38.75. Photo measures 20" x 16", double-matted with the signature of Johnson and the impeachment ticket, encapsulated by PSA/DNA. All signatures come with PSA/DNA COAs with the exception of Wilson and Williams. Near fine condition.
