Lot of six items personally owned by Mercury 7 and Apollo 1 astronaut Gus Grissom, all consigned from his estate and with LOAs from his son. Lot includes:
1. Gus Grissom's personally owned Inflatable Life Preserver (LPU), likely worn by Grissom as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Unopened LPU features two preservers measuring approximately 5.5'' x 8.5'', attached by a harness. Grissom would have worn this when flying over water.
2. Gus Grissom's personally owned F-1000 Aircraft Questionnaire, totaling seven pages filled out by hand in pencil by Grissom. The test has eight questions in total, all of which Grissom answers in detail. An eighth page is also included, dated 8 March 1957 where a Capt. Robert H. Jacobson certifies that Capt. V.I. Grissom has ''demonstrated an operational knowledge of all instruments, controls, fuel system and starting of the F-100C type aircraft''. Eight page on eight separate sheets measure 8.5'' x 11'', secured by paperclip and staple. Grissom's name written in ink at upper right of first page. Very good condition.
3. Gus Grissom's personally owned Project Gemini ''Spacecraft Prelaunch Test Procedure'' manual, SEDR #640-3, dated 15 March 1965. Measures 8.5'' x 11'' and runs 13 pages including covers, stapled at upper left. Light wear and three-hole punched, overall very good.
4. Gus Grissom's personally owned NASA memorandum, date-stamped 8 June 1959 on first page and with ''Capt. Grissom'' handwritten at top right. Document runs four pages, listing titles and position descriptions for eight Air Force officers detailed to NASA. Three of the men include Grissom, Deke Slayton and Gordon Cooper. These three have the position title of ''Mercury Astronaut'', with duties in small part including ''Participates in indoctrination, developmental research and pre-flight training programs under conditions simulating flight profiles...build up tolerances to the motions and forces associated with launch flight without gravity, and atmospheric reentry...'' Measures 8.5'' x 10.5'', stapled at top left. Very good plus condition.
5. Gus Grissom's personal draft copy of the Pilot's Flight Report for Mercury-Redstone 4, the second Mercury mission. Report runs 24 pages long, filled with handwritten edits in blue pencil and graphite, likely done by Grissom. Full of interesting observations regarding the mission, including a dangerous splashdown where Grissom got caught in the rotowash between two helicopters. Measures 8'' x 10.5''. Very good condition.
6. Holograph check signed by Gus Grissom. Handwritten by Grissom, check is dated 24 June 1959 for $19.70, signed ''Virgil I. Grissom'' at lower right. Measures 8.25'' x 3.25''. Light creasing and bank cancellation marks affecting signature, overall very good condition.
