Lot of four photos taken by David F. Barry, the western photographer whose portraits of the Lakota people earned him the nickname ''Little Shadow Catcher'' by the tribe. First photo, taken 25 June 1886 on the anniversary of the Battle of Little Bighorn, shows a line of riflemen on the ridge where George Armstrong Custer dismounted to his death 10 years earlier. Silver gelatin photo is signed by Barry, ''Photo by Barry'' in white ink, and has Barry's embossed copyright stamp at lower right. Measures 9.5'' x 7.5''.
Photo is affixed to black construction paper, on the verso of which are three additional portrait photos: General Frederick Benteen, with a Barry copyright stamp measuring 4'' x 5.75''; Captain Tom Custer, brother of General George Custer measuring 5'' x 7''; Major Marcus Reno who survived the Battle of Little Bighorn, measuring 4'' x 6.125''. Minor surface wear and creasing to large photo, some silvering to portrait photos, abrasions to edges of Benteen and Reno's photos.
