William Shatner's handwritten signed recollection of the superb storytelling of ''Star Trek'' and the science fiction genre. Composed on his personal stationery, Shatner writes in full: ''Science Fiction is a complex art form - the writer imagines a completely fictional world - Frequently peopled that are not like us - using tools that are not ours - great Sci Fi can lead us into speculation on weighty subjects like life after death, time travel, species more sophisticated than us - superior not only physically but in thought as well. The 1st shows of Star Trek tried to hire these writers - Many of the writers were familiar with science and especially esoteric science of the lab - so they would take some theory that could hardly be possible (at least that's what everybody thought until Quantum Physics) and play on that theoretical possibility - Roddenberry and company would solicit stories from these great novelists but a screenplay is a different discipline - you need act breaks - the plot needs to center around your leading characters - it too is a skill. So these first shows frequently had an imaginative twist concieved [sic] in the brain of a leading writer of Science Fiction the[n] altered and adjusted for the T.V. screen. That first script was exciting to read and then do. I was quite conscious of the beautiful imagination that went into these scripts. / William Shatner''. Single page measures 7.25'' x 10.25''.
