Lot of two typed letters signed by Charles Schulz from 1969 and 1970, generously offering guidance to a young comic artist. Both letters are penned on Schulz's personal stationery, with one giving some history on the origin of the ''Peanuts'' strip. Dated 2 December 1969, first letter reads, ''Your strip seems to be coming along fine. I think that as you, yourself, mature, your humor will do likewise. You will also be lead into new fields of thinking, which will help both your creativity and drawing. To answer your questions, the title, Peanuts, was given to the strip by the syndicate when it first began, and the line about the boy growing up in Kansas refers to no one...[signed] Charles M. Schulz''.

Second letter, dated 10 August 1970, reads, ''Your work seems to be progressing well. If you are interested in approaching a syndicate, I think that mailing in your work gives the editor a chance to hold it for a while and study it at his leisure. If you make a trip to New York and visit several syndicates during a one or two day period, then it would be a good idea to have photostadts [sic] of your samples which you could leave with the feature editor. Otherwise, you will be forcing him into the bad position of having to make a decision while he is sitting and talking to you...[signed] Charles M. Schulz''.

First letter is signed by Schulz in black felt-tip, and second in blue felt-tip. Both letters are addressed to Dave Sokoloff and measure 6.25'' x 7''. Single fold and tape to margins of both, and spot of discoloration to second letter. Overall in very good condition.
