Philip Roth first edition, first printing of his first published work, ''Goodbye, Columbus'', which tells the stories of second and third generation Jews as they assimilate and flourish in America. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co., 1959 with ''First printing'' on copyright page and 1959 on title page, as called for. Book includes bookplate signed by Roth in black felt-tip, measuring 4'' x 3''. Housed in original first printing dust jacket with $3.75 price. Bound in black boards with yellow and white lettering on spine. Some shelf wear to book, and chip to top of spine on jacket. Very good condition.
