Large Herbert Hoover archive, comprising 47 letters signed by the former President, one signed portrait, a telegram sent by Hoover and several ancillary documents, including an invitation to the wedding of Hoover's son, Allan Henry Hoover. Lot also includes several signatures from cabinet secretaries in the 1920s. Archive includes:
1) Silver gelatin photograph of a portrait of Hoover by Howard Chandler Christy, signed ''Herbert Hoover'' on the mat. Photo measures 6.375'' x 9.125'', and mat measures 10'' x 13''. Section of mat missing below signature, else very good.
2-36) Thirty-five letters signed ''Herbert Hoover'', including one signed as President on White House stationery. Dates range from 6 May 1919 through 26 October 1953, most on Hoover's personal stationery, ''European Relief Council'' letterhead or Department of Commerce letterhead when Hoover served as Secretary of Commerce under President Coolidge. One letter includes an autograph note by Hoover. Folds and mild wear, most in very good plus condition.
37-46) Ten letters signed ''H.H.'', all on Hoover's personal letterhead. Dates range from 19 May 1946-19 August 1952. Very good to near fine condition.
47-48) Two letters signed ''Herbert'', both on Hoover's personal letterhead. Dates range from 5 March 1951-29 December 1951. Very good to near fine condition.
49) Telegram from Hoover dated 26 May 1928.
50-56) Seven signatures of cabinet secretaries, serving under Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge or Herbert Hoover. All signed on cards of varying sizes: Henry L. Stinson, Walter F. Brown, James J. Davis, William D. Mitchell, Will H. Hays, Harry M. Dougherty and James W. Good.
With approximately 14 additional letters, documents and speeches, most signed by Hoover's sons. One of these items is the 1937 wedding invitation for Hoover's son, Allan Henry Hoover.
Letters are addressed to George A. Zabriskie, who served in the U.S. Sugar Associatioin and other agricultural committees over the course of his career.
