Nightingale's book was immediately popular when published, the first of its kind to aid nurses in their treatment of soldiers, especially during the Civil War. Nightingale covers topics such as ventilation, noise, bedding, taking food, cleanliness and attitude towards the sick. Bound in textured brown cloth boards with bright gilt lettering. Runs 140pp. and measures 5.125'' x 7.875''. With blank copyright page as issued. Pencil ownership inscription to front endpaper, and light shelf wear. Near fine condition.
