William Osler signed first edition, fourth impression of his collection of writings, ''Counsels and Ideals''. Oxford: Henry Frowde, 1908. Signed by Osler without inscription on the front free endpaper in black fountain pen, ''With good wishes / from / Wm Osler / Dec. 3rd 1910 / Oxford.'' Considered the ''Father of Modern Medicine'', Osler here reflects on a variety of subjects including ''Pioneers in Medicine'', ''Silence and Self-Control'', and ''Medical Education''. Beautifully bound in maroon boards with gilt tooling, measuring 5.25'' x 7.75'', runs 277pp. Top edge gilt and deckled edges. Light shelf wear, and foxing to endpapers. Very good to near fine condition.
