Map of Catalina Harbor from 1852, at the height of the California Gold Rush. Washington: U.S. Coast Survey, 1852. Engraved map shows the harbor ''and the Anchorage on the N.E. Side of the Island'', complete with sailing instructions that recommend anchoring on ''either side of Ballast Point. Inside of Ballast Point there is hardly room for a vessel to swing at her anchor...'' Map by A.D. Bache is scale 1:15,000. Sheet measures 12.5'' x 17.25''. Trimmed at top, folds, irregular toning, and light creasing. Overall very good condition.
