Hunter S. Thompson typed letter from 28 January 1966 when he was writing ''Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs''. Thompson signs the letter ''LSD'' in type, circling the sign-off in red pen. Letter to his friend Paul Semonin begins with Thompson thanking him for money, seguing into funds he expects to receive from the publication of ''Hell's Angels'' and the ''Rum Diary''. Letter reads in part, ''...That first agent set me up for a terrible jolt, which I received last week. The only balm was the assurance (heh) that Ballantine is going to buy the RD [Rum Diary] and the offer of a blind advance from Random. But nothing until I finish this monster, which seems interminable. You will come to hate the word 'Africa' before you finish yours. I repeat my advice: don't put the writing off until you finish the research, because you never will. Even on my own back-alley subject I have much more than I can use...LSD''. Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11'' on page green paper. Near fine condition.
