George S. Patton typed letter signed, written at the beginning of the Battle of Metz on 30 September 1944, and accompanied by original mailing envelope also signed by Patton. At this time, Patton's Third U.S. Army was hampered by heavy rains and Patton took time to respond to a letter from a family friend. Addressed to D.H. Knowlton, Postmaster of S. Hamilton, Massachusetts, Patton writes in part, ''...I am always happy to hear from you and get glances of the family. / With good wishes to all at Hamilton...[signed] GS Patton Jr.''. Single page on Third U.S. Army Headquarters, Office of the Commanding General stationery, letter measures 8'' x 10''. Mailing envelope measures 9'' x 4'', signed ''GS Patton Jr.'' at upper left, and postmarked 1 October 1944. Folds and creasing, overall very good condition.
