Rosa Parks signed description of her courageous decision to flout the racist law that required her to give up her bus seat to a white person. Parks signs at the bottom of the page, with the date of 1 November 1992, below an excerpt from the article ''I Wanted to Be Treated Like a Human Being'' by Marie Ragghianti, which first appeared in ''Parade'' magazine. Excerpt reads in part, ''...at a second stop, a white man got on and had to stand. He was not saying anything at all, not a word, but the bus driver noticed him.' Immediately, the driver ordered the four black passengers to surrender their seats so that white man could sit down...'The driver said, 'Y'all make it light on yourselves,'' she remembered. 'The two women moved then, but I moved next to the window. He asked me to move. I said, 'No.' Several people - all black - got off the bus.' She does not comment on the obvious; Only the black passengers were fearful of what might happen next...She was taken to City Hall, booked, fingerprinted, jailed and fined. He arrest and subsequent appeal were the catalyst for a year-long boycott of the city's buses by blacks...The boycott, which brought Martin Luther King, Jr. to national prominence, ended when a Supreme Court order declared Montgomery's segregated seating laws unconstitutional.
