Civil War magic lantern slide, picturing Union General Ulysses S. Grant's horse, named ''Jeff Davis''. An accompanied horseman, Grant found Jeff Davis to be a ''delightful'' horse, and rode him during long marches over difficult terrain where the stout but surefooted horse excelled. From the collection of T.H. McAllister of New York, glass slide measures 4'' x 3.25'', cased in period metal. In very good condition with fine contrast.
