Stan Laurel typed letter signed, mostly regarding living in Los Angeles, as his pen pal friend Bill Brown, to whom he writes, was considering a move to LA. Known for his availability to his fans, Laurel even gives Brown his private phone number. Dated 23 September 1963, uncorrected letter reads in part, ''...Re the Smog areas, Los Angeles (City) is of course the worst this spreads a lot into Hollywood & several sections of the Valley Area - the Beach areas are not so bad, but we do get a bit of it occasionally...Its very necessary to have an auto - the public transportation is very poor - The distance from L.A. to Santa Monica I think is over 25 miles...Re the type of people out here - do'nt think much different to any other large City.?? / My private phone is EXbrook 3-5656. I do'nt recall the name of BRYDEN you mention or any fishing trip & falling in the water business - I may have gone fishing with someone - so long ago??!...[signed] Stan Laurel''.
