'Gone With the Wind'' memo from producer David O. Selznick to the film's first director George Cukor. Dated 17 December 1938 on letterhead from his company, Selznick International Pictures, Inc., Selznick excoriates the actor Charles Quigley, who they were considering for the part of Rhett Butler less than two months before principal photography began on the film. Headlined ''IMMEDIATE'', memo reads in part, ''I think it is silly to waste film with an actor such as Charles Quigley as Rhett, because it is obvious from what little I saw on the set and from what Mr. Cukor has told me tonight, that all that happens is that we do an injustice to the girls who are playing Scarlett, who cannot play the Drunk Scene effectively opposite such an actor. Surely we can get a more competent actor than this...DOS''. Memo measures 8.5'' x 5.5''. Near fine condition.
