Frederick W. Seward signed stock certificate, dated 22 October 1889. The former Assistant Secretary of State signs "Frederick W. Seward" on this Norfolk and Western Railroad Company stock certificate. Just three years earlier, the railroad had begun shipping coal from the Norfolk area, the leading coal exporting port on the east coast, and would prosper from the coal trade. The 10 share note measures 11.25" x 7.25". Minor separation at folds, else fine.
