Hunter S. Thompson autograph letter signed, just hours after finishing ''The Rum Diary'', the novel he worked on throughout the early 1960s. Signed ''H'' at the end of the letter, and also ''Thompson'' in the return address panel, Thompson writes to his friend Paul Semonin, using the n-word to refer to himself at the close of the letter. Dated 9 April (1962), letter reads in full, ''Bueno / The fat is finally in the fire. RD finished about 2 hours hence. I've been walking, trying to know what it means, if anything - Plan to move south next week - am almost out of $. I fear the worst. Are you still alive? Write something. We are all n****** + will probably stay that way. / Murkily, H''. Aerogram letter measures 7.25'' x 12'', with address information filled out on verso. Some creasing and chip to edge from opening, very good condition.
