Samuel Adams military document signed as Governor of Massachusetts, dated 2 May 1797. Adams appoints Joel Fox as Ensign in the Militia of the Massachusetts Commonwealth. Signed ''Samuel Adams'' below the blind-stamped seal on left side, countersigned by John Avery, Jr. as Massachusetts Secretary. Measures 15'' x 9.25'', beautifully framed in black and gold to 21'' x 15.5''. Split along folds, including through Adams name, though archivally repaired on verso. Very good plus condition.
