Service plate, in fine condition, made for the Harry S. Truman White House, depicting the new 1945 Presidential seal design for the first time. Truman mandated this new design by Executive Order on 25 October 1945, after years of inconsistencies in the Great Seal's design.

Large china plate by Lenox features the Presidential seal in gilt at center, surrounded by bands of gilt and celadon green, with the outermost band in 24kt gold. The design of this service was chosen by the Trumans to complement the renovation of the State Dining Room of the White House, as the carved oak paneling installed by Theodore Roosevelt was painted a soft ''Williamsburg green'', matching the celadon here.

Service plate measures 11.375'' in diameter, designed to sit under the dinner plate to sustain its heat. Manufacturers stamp on underside in gilt reads, ''White House Service / by Lenox / X-307 / Made in U.S.A. / B. Altman & Co.'' Sticker on back with Truman's name handwritten; in beautiful, fine condition. From the collection of William H. Perkins, Jr.
