Wolfe signs the front free endpaper in the year of publication, ''To a well-wisher / Thomas Wolfe / Oct 30, 1929''. With first printing points present: ''greek'' rather than ''Greek'' on page 308, line 26, and ''staioned'' rather than ''stationed'' on page 506, line 23.
A literary high point of 20th century fiction, the New York Times Book Review wrote of ''Look Homeward, Angel'' on 27 October 1929, just a few days before Wolfe's inscription, ''Here is a novel of the sort one is too seldom privileged to welcome. It is a book of great drive and vigor, of profound originality, of rich and variant color...Mr. Wolfe has a great gift-the ability to find in simple events and in humble, unpromising lives the whole meaning and poetry of human existence.'' Octavo book measuring 5.5'' x 7.75'' remains in attractive condition with bright gilt lettering upon navy blue boards. Light shelf wear, particular to spine edges and corners.
