Helen Keller letter signed, entreating a Reverend James Gordon to help her fundraise for the American Foundation for the Blind. Dated 12 January 1925 from her home in Forest Hills, New York, letter reads in part, ''...We so much need your well known name to aid the sightless in their courageous crusade against darkness...To-day you go about your business confident, self-sufficient, unafraid in the crowded thoroughfares. How different it would be if you should become blind to-morrow! You would grope and stumble and stand at street-corners, waiting patiently for a friendly hand to lead you through the traffic. Failing that human help you would follow your outstretched cane, dredging your way through the multitude and the dark. Dear friend, will you not help the Foundation for the Blind to be a guide and friend to all the sightless on their dark pilgrimage?...[signed] Helen Keller''. Keller was successful in persuading Gordon to help the Foundation as she spoke to his congregation later in 1925. Single page letter measures 6.75'' x 10.75'', signed in pencil by Keller as was typical of her letters. Slightly uneven toning, and a few closed tears to margins. Overall very good condition.
