Stan Laurel letter signed with his full name ''Stan Laurel'', with interesting content regarding the Jack Parr-Johnny Carson show, negative comments about his wife, and other movie stars. Laurel writes to his pen-pal friend on 4 September 1962 in part, ''...I do'nt recall seeing Bob Hope in the 'Louisiana Purchase' film version [Hope did star in the film] - I assume Victor Moore played the original character as in the play. No, no offence re the article you mentioned concerning Mrs L. - thats to be expected from these unreliable columnists & reporters - after so many years I'm immune. Do'nt bother to send the article Bill, its of no interest to me...Naturally I heard about Hoot Gibson - the last time I saw him he was on his honeymoon with Sally Eilers we were on the same ship bound for Hawaii, we became quite friendly on that voyage, but never met either of them since...The old Jack Paar show has still been running since he left, a different Host every week, its been interesting seeing a new personality every week in charge, there have been about I8 names so far - this week is Red Buttons - this formula continues till Johnny Carson takes over permanently in October...'' Laurel then answers various questions about Alan Ladd, the Laurel & Hardy cartoon series and W.C. Fields, ending with, ''Guess you heard about Gene Autrey's 'Melody Ranch' being destroyed in the recent Fires out here (most of his Western Street Sets burned to the ground)...Cheerio - God Bless. As ever: [signed] Stan Laurel''. Two page letter (on two sheets) of Oceana Apartment Hotel stationery measures 5.5'' x 8.5''. Folds, else near fine. With original mailing envelope.
