Stan Laurel typed letter signed with his full name ''Stan Laurel'', dated 21 April 1962. Laurel writes to his pen-pal friend Bill Brown regarding Laurel's diabetes, and also the 1937 film ''Pick a Star'', where Laurel & Hardy had cameo roles. Letter reads in part, ''...Note your Mother is now taking pills instead of insulin - hope it will prove adequate for her, in many cases its not effective & have to continue with injections - as in my case. I first discovered I was diabetic in I948, but do'nt know actually when I developed this ailment some people have it for years without knowing it. Re the telephone interview (Winnipeg Channel 7.) I would'nt care for this for many reasons, firstly you're on the 'Spot' not knowing what questions they will ask you - could be difficult to answer & consequently embarrassing - its alright if the particular celebrity is still active in the business & is looking for publicity but in my case, it does'nt mean a thing. I surmise, this is your idea & not the TV station's, otherwise they would have contacted me direct. / Re the cast in 'Pick a Star' film - have no idea just who was in it - as I think I told you we only worked a couple of days in it & never did see the picture when released, not even the preview showing. Do'nt know if the title was ever changed or not...[signed] Stan Laurel.'' Single page letter measures 5.5'' x 8.5'' on Oceana Apartment Hotel stationery, where Laurel lived. Folds, else near fine condition. With original mailing envelope.
