Two original albumen prints from 1890 and 1891, taken by the Northwestern Photo Co. of Chadron, Nebraska, whose company is well known for documenting the aftermath of the Wounded Knee massacre. The first photograph, published in ''Eyewitness at Wounded Knee'' and taken by photographer Clarence Moreledge, shows the ''Two Strike and Crow Dogs Camp / Pine Ridge Agency S.D.'' as titled in the negative. Interestingly, to the far right of the photo another photographer (likely George Trager) is shown photographing the camp as well. The second photo shows the Sioux waiting in line to collect rations; the 20 percent cut in rations in 1890 is cited as contributing to the renewed popularity of the Sioux's Ghost Dance, a religious ritual that the federal forces found so threatening. Photos measure 7'' x 4.25'', affixed to an album mat measuring 10'' x 7''. Some buckling and staining to mat. Photos themselves are a bit light, but overall very good condition.
