Olympic relay torch used in the 2016 Summer Olympics. The Torch Relay tradition began in 1928, and transports a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece to the host city in time for the opening ceremonies, in this case to Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Metal torch has an undulating wave pattern growing wider towards the top where the Rio 2016 Olympic logo is featured. The wave pattern is meant to reflect Rio's oceans and mountains, with shimmering blue and green displayed. A discreet triangular pattern also appears on the base where the torch is held, as called for. Accompanied by original container and carrying case. Sticker affixed to barrel holding fuel tank identifies the torch as ''No 0216/16004188''. Torch measures 27.5'' long and 3.5'' in diameter at its widest point at top. Weighs 3 lbs. Top of torch is darkened from flame during use in the Olympics, otherwise near fine condition.
