Hunter S. Thompson typed letter signed with his initial H, emphatically circled by the literary legend. Dated 21 November (1960), Thompson writes to his friend Paul Semonin, one of his first letters while living in Big Sur. Letter reads in part, ''Just dawned on me that my gear is still at Mac's [mutual friend from Louisville, John Macauley Smith]. Best you send it R.R. Express (COD) to me at Big Sur address...Incredible sunset outside. Squadron of swordfish, big as China, hurtling across sky. First they were grey, then red-gold, now black. Perhaps this is the omen we were waiting for? What happened to Pat Sheenon's $$$$$$$ friend? Why don't you do something useful with your life? / Parasitically, [signed] H''. Postcard measures 5.5'' x 3.25'', postmarked on front from Big Sur on 25 November 1960. Light toning, overall near fine condition.
