Evelyn Waugh signed first edition of his biography of Ronald Knox, the Catholic priest, theologian and novelist. Chapman & Hall, 1959. Waugh elegantly signs ''Evelyn Waugh'' upon the title page, which reads in full, ''The Life of the Right Reverend Ronald Knox Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford and Pronotary Apostolic to His Holiness Pope Pius XII''. With frontispiece portrait of Knox, and unclipped dust jacket with price of 30s net. Book originates from the library of biographer Patrick Balfour, 3rd Baron Kinross, who reviewed the Knox biography for the ''Sunday Times'', in part, ''In an age of subjective fiction Evelyn Waugh stands out as an objective novelist. He is not given to self-analysis...His biography of Ronald Knox demanded and elicited a deeper level of portraiture.'' Book measures 6'' x 8.75''. Minute wear and chipping to spine of jacket; very good plus. A few small spots to front blue board, and light wear, else near fine.
