Interested typed letter signed by ''Star Trek'' creator Gene Roddenberry regarding ''Star Trek'' merchandising. Composed on ''Star Trek'' letterhead captioned ''From the Log of the Starship Enterprise'', Roddenberry writes on 16 August 1976 as planning was underway for the first ''Star Trek'' feature film. Roddenberry writes to Jesco von Puttkamer of NASA, in part, ''...I was especially pleased to get at this particular time your strong and honest comments on the spread of cheap STAR TREK hucksterism and the damage it may do to the image of the STAR TREK film project. I have taken the liberty of forwarding your letter to Mr. Richard Zimbert, Executive Vice President of Paramount Business Affairs, who has voiced some of the same concerns...I was already worried about the other trouble makers but the name Timothy Leary gave me a real chill...[signed] Gene Roddenberry''. In addition to working with NASA on ''Star Trek: The Motion Picture'', Roddenberry was present at NASA's 1976 unveiling of the Space Shuttle Enterprise, named after the ''Star Trek'' spaceship. Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Block of toning and folds, otherwise near fine.
