Academy Award-winning actress Mary Astor typed letter signed to her agent Gloria Safier. Dated 17 August 1957, letter discusses how to handle credits for an English professor who helped her write her autobiography. Reads in part, ''...I don't feel good at all about not including Frank in the by-line -- credit, or whatever it's called. It's asking too much of human nature not to get any credit for this job. You should have seen his face when he read your letter. It may not be quite the same, but I can't think of how I would feel if I had to do a show without my name on the cast card...I hope my book will be a true biography, giving each episode its proper weight, with no hurrying on to get to 'the juicy part' -- without the naming of names, 'to get even' -- an honest document of a woman who happened to be an actress...'' Signed ''Mary'', two page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds and light wear, otherwise near fine. Includes an identical copy of the letter, unsigned.
