Olympic torch from the 1980 Summer Olympics held in Moscow. The Torch Relay tradition originated in 1928, and begins when a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece ignites the torch that begins the Relay, ending in the host city in time for the opening ceremonies, in this case Moscow. Torch features lamp-burning mechanism specially designed by Soviet scientists, which allowed the lamp to burn for 48 hours straight. Light grey torch contains circular gold lamp component, base with ''Moscow - Olympics - 1980'' written in Russian and a gold handle with the Moscow Olympic logo. Gold circular component to the bottom of the handle allows the torch to be filled with kerosene. Torch measures 22'' long, with the torch opening measuring 3.75''. Minute dent to base, and light wear. Overall in very good plus condition.
