Early concept artwork for Ridley Scott's ''Alien'', the 1979 sci-fi horror film that became an instant legend, unique in its genre for winning an Academy Award for Visual Effects. Fantastic, large piece shows the interior of the spaceship ''Nostromo'' (called the ''Leviathan'' on the artwork, the working title of the spaceship during pre-production), with several rooms identified. Almost a character in its own right, with Ripley and her crew having to navigate its corridors to evade the Alien creature, the spaceship here shows a cross-section of its interior, with the Elevator at center and the ship's computer, named ''Mother'' at right. At lower right, artwork is dated 10 March 1977 and signed ''Scotty'', likely by Elliot Scott, uncredited on ''Alien'', but who served as Production Designer for two of the Indiana Jones films. At lower left is written ''1st Rough 'A' / LEVIATHAN / Bridge - Computer Room - Projection.'' Artwork is rendered in pen and marker, measuring 20.5'' x 13'' on thin construction paper. Chipping to right edge with some paper loss, otherwise near fine condition. From the collection of ''Alien'' executive Peter Beale.
