Rare delegate badge for the 1912 Progressive Party, nicknamed the ''Bull Moose Party'' as Theodore Roosevelt said he felt as fit as a bull moose when he formed it. Disappointed with his protege President William Howard Taft, Theodore Roosevelt split from the Republican Party to form the very first Progressive Party, as he believed Democrats and Republicans were both backed by corporate interests. The new Progressive Party advocated for regulations on campaign contributions, an 8 hour workday, an early form of Social Security, women's suffrage and an inheritance tax. This Delegate badge features a ribbon connecting the Delegate button to a jugate button of Roosevelt and his Vice President, Hiram Johnson, above a bull moose. The ribbon reads ''Reception to Hiram W. Johnson [?] Sept. 24, 1912''. Badge is likely for a state meeting, as the Progressive Party was established in individual states following its national convention in August 1912. Jugate button measures 1.25'' in diameter and entire badge measures 2'' x 3.75''. Made by Boston Badge Co. Some soiling to jugate button and rubbing to gold lettering on ribbon, but overall in very good condition with functional pins on the reverse.
